IT STARTS WITH
OUR SEEDS
With full transparency and traceability, we map out the lifespan of every fiber we work with. We ensure ethics and environment are always honored, beginning with our farmers and the soil our seeds are planted in.
Our farmers share a passion for environmentalism and craft; whether it's growing the flax for our linen collection in fields of Belgium and France, or the organic farming practices in the valleys of Peru where our cotton collection is grown.
NATURAL FIBERS
Beginning in 2021 all collections will be exclusively manufactured with 100% natural fibers.
For cotton collections we exclusively use organic cotton because among numerous benefits, GOTS certified organic cotton cultivation:
-Uses 90% less water than non-organic
-Causes over 25% less soil erosion
-Causes 70% less soil acidification
-Protects the health of farmers and the biodiversity of our planet
GARMENT MAKING
AS AN ARTFORM
Every garment is designed in California.
We manufacture in the United States and close to the source of our fibers in both Europe & Peru; no one better understands the subtleties of our fibers than the people who have been working with them for centuries.
Our factories abroad are vertically integrated, allowing knitting, sewing & dyeing to be completed entirely in house under one roof with a minimal footprint. These manufacturers operate under the world's most stringent and protective ethical and environmental standards with both GOTS & OEKO-TEX 100 certifications.
TOXIN-FREE DYEING
Garments in our 2021 collection will meet GOTS and OEKO-Tex standards for non-toxic dyeing practices which include:
-Prohibition of toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their enzymes.
-Prohibition of chlorine bleaching
-Prohibition of Azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds
ENCOURAGING
CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION
Every piece is thoughtfully designed with silhouettes accommodating growth spurts and years of wear, creating longer garment lifespans and less closet turnover. Our children's garments use two year sizing, encouraging more thoughtful, less frequent buying and more mindful consumption. We build every garment with quality in mind allowing it to be worn for years, passed down, resold or donated.
COMPOST & CARBON
We use...
-ZERO plastic (virgin or otherwise) in our packaging
-100% recycled tissue paper to protect garments during shipment without the use of plastic stickers or tape
-100% cotton brand labels
-100% recycled paper hang tags
-100% recyclable & 100% compostable shipping mailers
-Carbon offsetting for all shop orders
